DETERMINATION OF CALCIUM DEPOSITS IN UNDERGROUND PIPES |

The method is based on moving a source and a spectrometer along straight lines passing on each side of the pipe to be examined, and measuring the transmitted gamma intensity as a function of source- spectrometer position along the line of motion. |

In figure 1 the results corresponding to a clean pipe are shown It is seen that the calculations (thin line) agree very well with the data (solid squares). The case of a pipe with Calcium deposits inside is shown in figure 2. Here the deviations from the calculated curve are apparent. Using the known value of Calcium density it is possible to deduce its thickness at each section in figure 3. More detailed figures can be seen by clicking on the magnifier symbol. |
