The
examination of concrete structures with
gamma radiation is the only non destructive
method capable of providing a "photographic" picture of
corrosion and defects in the reinforcing bars. This application becomes
particularly important in the case of buildings near the sea.
The corrosion in a rebar is
immediately attested by the fact that its profile is not straight. |

Picture 1 belongs to a gammagraphy of the wall of a tank containing corrosive substances. One of the horizontal rebars is broken (as can be seen in more detail in the lower insert at picture 3) and another vertical one on the left of the gammagraphy is seen strongly corroded (as shown in the corresponding insert at picture 2). | ||
